Shawnee County District Court records show Michael Eugene Dodson in September failed to make a court appearance linked to charges filed in May that included driving under the influence. He said he did some research and learned that the subject of that warrant was instead Michael Eugene Dodson.
Michael Scott Dodson said police told him a warrant was out for his arrest when they responded to his house as an ambulance crew was called there for a medical situation last month.
The complaint was being investigated by the professional standards unit of the police department, which is fully committed to fully investigating the situation involved, police public relations specialist Gretchen Spiker said Thursday morning. “They need to own up to their mistake,” he said. “Getting physical when someone is offering you their identification to prove you're talking to the wrong person is unacceptable behavior for our law enforcement community, especially in these times,” Dodson said.ĭodson said he filed a formal complaint Wednesday evening with Topeka police.
He showed the newspaper a photo taken afterward showing his bloodied face. Michael Scott Dodson says he tried to tell Topeka police they had the wrong man when they came to his home Wednesday looking for someone with his same first and last names.īut one officer put his hands on Dodson, then - after Dodson took a defensive martial arts stance - the officers pepper sprayed him and punched him in the face, Dodson told The Capital-Journal Thursday.
